While Michael Jackson was being buried in a lavish ceremony across town, friends, family and fans paid a final tribute to DJ AM (born Adam Goldstein) on Thursday night at the Hollywood Palladium, less than one week after the popular celebrity DJ was found dead in his New York apartment of an apparent drug overdose.

According to People, hundreds of invited guests and fans turned out to remember AM, 36, who was buried on Wednesday, among them former fiancée Nicole Richie and friends Lindsay Lohan, Samantha Ronson, Eric Dane, Rebecca Gayheart and Robert Downey Jr. E! Online reported that the VIPs also included Dr. Drew Pinsky, Tom Arnold, Jon Favreau and Sugar Ray singer Mark McGrath.
“He was my soulmate and now he is my soul,” girlfriend Hayley Wood said during the two-and-a-half-hour memorial. “He is my amazing grace.”
Because of the anonymity requested by organizers to honor the structure of 12-step meeting, no press was allowed into the event, and few details have emerged about what was said inside.
Radar Online reported that the 3,500 attendees also included John Mayer and that the event was organized by Hollywood club promoter Brent Bolthouse. While fans reportedly scrambled to get a seat in the venue, an eyewitness described the crowd as “very hip and eclectic,” with some in T-shirts and jeans, and others in black suits. “It was packed, though. You could tell how well loved he was,” the witness told the site. “It was a very somber and sad crowd.”
The Palladium was a fitting place for AM’s final memorial, as it was the first venue he performed in following the South Carolina plane crash he and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker survived last September.
The New York City medical examiner’s office has not yet determined a cause of death and is conducting further toxicology tests, but there were several reports from unnamed sources earlier this week that AM had more than half a dozen undigested OxyContin pills in his stomach and one in his mouth when police found him face down on his bed in his barricaded Soho apartment.

Members of Blink-182 mourn fallen friend DJ AM

Members of the band Blink-182 dimmed the lights for a tearful moment of silence at a concert for their fallen friend DJ AM.
“This is really hard for us on stage,” said bass player Mark Hoppus as the three band members bowed their heads and cried at the concert in Hartford over the weekend.

“We are doing our very best to get through this show, but right now it’s very hard,” said Hoppus.
DJ AM, whose real name was Adam Goldstein, died in bed at his SoHo pad on Friday of an apparent drug overdose.
The recovering crack addict was found with prescription drugs and a crack pipe nearby and a near-empty bag of crack under his body.
The medical examiner has not yet ruled a cause of death pending further test results.
Goldstein’s body was released to Frank E. Campbell funeral chapel on Madison Ave. yesterday morning.
The deejay was a longtime friend and collaborator of Blink-182. They formed an even stronger bond after Goldstein and the band’s drummer, Travis Barker, survived a 2008 plane crash that killed the four others onboard.
Goldstein and Barker suffered second- and third-degree burns, but made full recoveries.
Soon after the crash, Goldstein wrote that he lived every day with “the guilt and grief of what happened that night, what I saw, who was lost and why I was spared.”

DJ AM found dead in New York apartment

NEW YORK (Reuters) - DJ AM, the stage name of disc jockey Adam Goldstein whose music could be heard on albums by Madonna and Will Smith, was found dead in his New York apartment at age 36 on Friday, according to media reports.
John Sweeney, a spokesman for the New York police, told Reuters officers found a man dead at 5:23 p.m. EDT on Friday but he could not immediately confirm the man was Goldstein.

The address where Sweeney said the man was found matches that of Goldstein’s apartment.
Celebrity news website TMZ.com said Goldstein, who socialized with Hollywood celebrities and in 2008 survived a plane crash with Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, was found with prescription pill bottles near his body after he had not been heard from for days.
As a DJ, Goldstein’s work appeared on albums by Madonna, Will Smith, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Papa Roach. He performed at clubs in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and elsewhere.
With the band Crazy Town, Goldstein had the 2001 hit song “Butterfly” but the group broke up two years later.
He partnered with Barker of punk band Blink 182 last year to create a live DJ and drum performance and the duo played occasionally at clubs and other concert venues.
In September 2008, Goldstein and Barker were in a private plane that crashed while trying to take off from an airport in South Carolina. The two pilots and two passengers were killed.
Goldstein and Barker suffered serious burns and were hospitalized in critical condition.
Goldstein posted his last known public remarks on the social networking website Twitter on Tuesday when he wrote: “New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems.”
The words were lyrics from a song by Grandmaster Flash, a pioneer of hip-hop music.
Goldstein dated reality TV star Nicole Richie, to whom he was at one point engaged, and later went out with singer and actress Mandy Moore.
